As you are preparing for the next homeschool year, remember, homeschooling isn’t always about a textbook.

While you are filling your planner full of plans for school lessons and activities, don’t forget to intentionally schedule down times too.

There will be days you and your children will just need to get out and enjoy the sun.

So, instead of bad weather days, try to include “Sun” days, “Fun” days. These days can lead to lots of fun and exploring. It gives your kids a chance to learn about some things outside that just may not be in a textbook. Hopefully these moments will refresh your homeschool when it starts to feel dull.

Homeschooling isn’t only about academic education. It is also about learning life skills, building relationships, growing as a family, and our personal walk with the Lord.

There will be moments when things just come up and interrupt school. That will be ok. Don’t stress over interruptions. They just might be divine appointments from God.

As a mom and your children’s teacher, you will have days you need to just relax and breathe a moment. After all, you cannot be the best mom or teacher to your children if you don’t rest and take care of yourself. So, remember to plan self care time.

Try not to make your schedule too busy and overwhelming.

Do try to plan some activities that will reduce stress and make good memories.

Over the last 11 years of homeschooling, I have realized some of the biggest learning opportunities for my children, as well as for me, have been the interruptions and down times. These moments have also created the best memories and life experiences.

Unfortunately, these days pass all too quickly, and we cannot have even one of them back.

I have already had two of my children graduate and start families of their own. My youngest will begin her senior year this fall.

How I miss the days of teaching each of them. I truly wish time could slow down.

I want to encourage you today, to take a few minutes each day to just soak up all you can from these precious moments in time.

Don’t get so caught up in planning and schedules that you miss what is truly important.
