You can read my full   disclosure and privacy  As you are preparing for the next homeschool year, remember, homeschooling isn’t always about a textbook. While you are filling your planner full of plans for school lessons and activities, don’t forget to intentionally schedule down times too.  There will be days you and your children will just need to get out and enjoy the sun.  So, instead of bad weather days, try to include “Sun” days, “Fun” days. These days can lead to lots of fun and exploring. It gives your kids a chance to learn about some things outside that just may not be in a textbook. Hopefully these moments will refresh your homeschool when it starts to feel dull. Homeschooling isn’t only about academic education. It is also about learning life skills, building relationships, growing as a family, and our perso

How I Taught World Geography

Making World Geography Fun photo by Heather This post may contain affiliate links. This just means if you shop through any of the links I may earn a monetary compensation at no extra cost to you. You can read my full   disclosure and privacy policy . This is part one of How I am Teaching World Geography. In the past, I taught world geography a bit differently than the way I am teaching it this year. I am using a spine to help me organize the lessons, but we are doing more activities than the textbook has. I wanted to keep this interesting. Just going by the text and doing the book work was leaving my student bored. I just knew I had to step this class up a notch. I contemplated on changing the curriculum I was using. Then, I decided to keep it. I thought it wasn't worth spending more money on something else when I could make what I have work. After all, what I have is a tool to use. I need to make it work for our family, and not have our family work for it. I just had to get a litt

The Coffee Ministry

Image
The Coffee Ministry photo by Heather Have you ever considered your spouse as being your first ministry? I know I really didn't think of my husband that way when we got married. In fact, it was several years down the road before I thought of him that way. I looked at my role, as a wife, with a to do list a "wife" was supposed handle each day.  I thought my husband's role was basically to provide, cut the grass, and maybe take out the trash every now and then. I thought I was supposed to be the one that did the most for our kids.  Fortunately, my husband has helped out a lot over the years with he kids. I guess I was thinking family is something you grow up and just do.  I thought ministry was something you did only at church. We got really involved in church. We were at church every time the doors were open. Over the years we served in many ministries of the church. We worked with youth, worked in the nursery, taught children's church, took kids on trips, cleaned,

Homeschooling Blues

Around this time of year I hear stories of moms who just feel like they can't keep homeschooling.  They are just ready to throw in the towel, and send the kids to public school. They feel overwhelmed with the homeschooling blues. Homeschooling Blues, Am I Doing Enough? Photo by Heather Some may think they are not giving their kids enough. They feel like the curriculum isn't working. There are times they don't feel very productive. Trying to homeschool, cook, clean, referee kids, carpool, run errands, shop for groceries, walk the dog, and so much more. Some of us even have jobs outside the home or work from home. And it seems so hard sometimes to get back to a normal routine after Christmas break. Even a month and a half later. No wonder we feel stressed and tired quite often. For those homeschool moms who feel they have the homeschool blues, know you are not alone. There are other moms who feel the same. I am one of those moms. Sometimes I have to give myself a pep talk, an

Using Essential Oils for Selfcare

Image
Using Essential Oils Daily Photo by Heather I started using essential oils about 8 or 9 years ago. When I first started using them I didn't have a clue about them. I was introduced to them by a friend. She was telling me all the things lavender could be used for. I was amazed, but I was also skeptical about it. This was new to me. I was wondering if they really work. It just so happened my youngest kiddo had allergies, causing a little bit of a stuffy nose and watery eyes.  My friend had two bottles of lavender and she gave me one. I used it just like she told me by placing a drop on each foot and massaging it in, and it did help my daughter. This lead me to start researching about other essential oils and there uses. In my research, I learned they can be used for aches, anxiety, depression, colds, respiratory issues, to clean with, in skin care products, and much more. Now, I am not an aromatherapist by any means, however I can say these have worked for my family and me. I would s
